The Autonomous Republic of Astonbury (ARA) is an autonomous district of The Free Union of Acronius. According to recent censuses, the ARA is ranked as the 4th most populous city in Acronius. Alongside that, the autonomous city state holds the record for the single highest GDP per capita in the the world, with an economy that is currently experiencing rapid growth and increased implementation of free market ideas. Governing power of the city is shared between the First Minister of Astonbury - Louis Edeneau (Centrist Freedom Party), and the President of Acronius - Roland Lellouche. The city is situated on an island just off the western Acronian coastline, and is connected to the mainland of it's parent nation through underwater train tunnels and four gigantic bridges, as well as exclusive air pathways maintained by the Acronian-Astonburian Aviation Agency. Astonbury is considered a major global financial/commercial hub, and is considered one of the pinnacles of technological advancement in Atlas. Astonbury maintains it's own police forces (APF) and it's own intelligence agency (AIRA), and possesses eight advanced naval patrol boats, but defence to the city is officially provided by the Acronian Military, which has a number of Astonburian servicemen in it's ranks.
