Political Divisions

The Empire of Asturica consists of 23 constituent member-states (three kingdoms, four principalities, two grand duchies, eleven duchies, and three free cities). These member-states - with the notable exception of the three autonomous municipal administrations of Sadena, Viassa, and Salegre - are governed as constitutional or semi-constitutional monarchies with their own noble families as well as their own elected officials and legislatures, all of which are subserviant to the Asturican Emperor and the Imperial Assembly. The free cities do not have ruling noble families and instead exist as sub-national constituent republics with elected governors and municipal legislatures.

Asturica's military, the Imperial Defense Forces (Asturican: Forzas de Defensa Imperiais), is comprised of three primary branches: the Imperial Ground Forces (Asturican: Forzas Terrestres Imperiais) which is commonly referred to as the Imperial Army, the Imperial Aviation Corps (Asturican: Corpo de Aviación Imperial) which is more commonly referred to as the Imperial Air Force, and the Imperial Maritime Forces (Asturican: Forzas Marítimas Imperiais) alternatively known as the Imperial Navy. The total number of service members in 2025 totaled WIP across all branches (both active duty and reserve personnel). In absolute terms, Asturica's military expenditure is equal to ??? The Imperial Defense Forces is nominally a wholly voluntary force, though national conscription may be introduced in times of national emergency on the Emperor's order.
