The official unit of currency on Barrayar is the Imperial Mark. Issued and controlled by the Central Bank of Barrayar, the currency code for the Barrayaran Mark is BRM. The word mark comes from an ancient measure of weight mainly for gold and silver. The Barrayaran Imperial Mark is not among the Nexus strongest curriences, a Mark being worth about 0.25/0.33 Betan Dollars (average values). Nowadays currency is quite uncommon especially on Komarr, due to the diffusion of credit chips and of interfaces with the planetary credit networks. Printing fake currency or hacking the (secure) credit networks is a very serious offence.
The Mark is subdivided into 100 Kopeks.

Kopeks

The Barrayaran Kopek is a unit of currency equaling one one-hundredth of an Imperial Mark. The kopek’s symbol is K. The Kopek was originally minted from bronze, but since 2992 the physical coinage has been minted in bronze-plated aluminium.

Coins

There are presently two series of coins in circulation: aluminium, bronze and bi-metallic and light-weight aluminium coins. Currently there are coins of 1 Kopek, 2 Kopeks, 5 Kopeks (referred to as "Shilling"), 10 Kopeks, 20 Kopeks, 25 Kopeks (referred to as "Halfcrown"), 50 Kopeks (referred to as "Crown"), 1 Mark (referred to as "Sovreign").

Banknotes

Currently circulating Barrayaram banknotes are of 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 Marks. There are some plans to introduce also the 1 Mark note; however this is under scrutiny, due to the costs.
