The Berghelling derby is the name given to football matches between FC Hellingbourg and Vaelleniana KF, two major clubs from Berghelling, Vaellenia, Midrasia. It is one of the longest running top-flight football derbys in Midrasian football with both clubs having been a part of Liga Premiére for the better part of fifty years. Part of the rivalry stems from the proximity of both clubs within the city of Berghelling. However, the rivalry also stems from the background of each club's fans, with fans of Hellingbourg mostly coming from the Midrasian migrant population which arrived in Vaellenia during the Fifteenth and Sixteenth centuries. Fans of Vaellenia generally stem from the native Vaellenian population.
Traditionally, the derby has been marred by violence and clashes between fans, emblematic of the tensions which have gripped Berghelling and Vaellenia as a whole throughout its history. Fan segregation is enforced within the match with large police presences. The derby has traditionally been dominated by Vaelleniana who have won 73, or 69% of all clashes between the two sides. Nevertheless, in recent years Hellingbourg has begun to eclipse its neighbour, having won 5 of the last 7 clashes between the two sides.
History
Both teams originally competed within the Vaellenian Regional Championships prior to the creation of the Midrasian Footballing League.
