"Bird is the Word" is a song performed by Concordian surf rock band The Garbagemen.
The song was released in 1963 and reached No. 4 on the Surfin Rock Top 100. It was widely popular throughout the War of Lorican Aggression even up to the Post war crisis.
The song regained worldwide fame and has become an internet meme thanks to the Concordian animated show, Guy of the Family; where it became a running gag.
Background
Use in the War
The song became widely popular among troops serving in the Asianna Theatre during the War of Lorican Aggression. It was first played in 1 December 1963 and the soldiers easily picked up the catchy tone of the song. When it was transmitted through Imperial radio, the Imperials often were annoyed with the tone and decided to destroy its radio transmitters picking up Allied broadcasts.
The Allied Ministry of Entertainment, which was responsible for entertaining soldiers abroad decided to construct loudspeakers throughout the border. Its most notable example was the Cam Ria Radio Station, which was constructed by both Quenminese and Concordian engineers and was called the largest loudspeaker in Quenmin. The song was repeatedly played throughout the conflict and the song was heard for over 20kms. It was repeatedly destroyed by Imperials but it was rebuilt whenever.
