Blagren växten or "The blue twig plant" is a small plant that commonly grows on the steep cliffs of western Scandera and prefers the rocky soil there where it is also mostly commonly grown. The plants are cultivated as a drug in Scandera where it is consumed in one of two ways. Either is the plant chewed or made into the potent and highly addictive "Bla brygd". The plant has been grown and consumed since time immemorial and even runes from the earliest settlements on the Erathian peninsula have been describing the plant being picked from the high cliffs on the western shoreline. Cultivated use is also old and the holy chronicles mentions people showing signs of long time use and mentioning farms as early as 300 bc. The holy chronicles is however divided and contradictory on the use of the plants as some stories are certainly in favour of consuming it while others says that it a sign of weak morals and character.

The more addictive product made from the plant called "bla brygd" is however universally villified in the holy chronicles by saying "The guards however lacked wit and discipline having slept the night away in the blue dreams so Ingen could sneak past and enter the castle where the elven queen awaited him" from the tale of Larding Ingen.

Chewing blagren

The plant is harversted and dried on an industrial scale in the absolute royal federation and is often sold in Scanderan stores called "Tug pinnar" or "Chewing sticks". Chewing the twigs like this gives the user a sense of ease and calm but it can be addictive. However Blagren have not been proven to cause cancer as consuming tobacco can cause. That said however so does it come with other issues. Long use can cause discolouration in the jaw and mouth where long term users mouths turns blue over time and people that have been using the sticks for most of their lives often sees their entire jaws turn blue and the colour even reaching the skin. The sticks have also been proven to cause numbness and even paralyzation in the jaw after lifetimes of use. While not proven so have some studies suggested that it can also cause internal bleeding.

Blabrygd

"Blabrygd" or blue brew is however not only more pleasurable by putting the user in a deep sleep with vivid almost realistic dreams where all their wishes are fulfilled than the chewing product but it is also highly addictive having been known to cause people to sleep away their lives. Furthermore is it also known to quickly be able to cause paralyzation to the face, breathing problems and stomach wounds after prolonged use.

The brew is made by boiling the roots of the plant for the better part of a month before drinking the brew hot. While chewing sticks are legal to sell in stores are Blabrygd not so, instead is it sold from a few select opium dens with permission to sell permitted drugs or sold illegally on the street. While it is legal to consume it in ones house so is it not legal to carry in public nor to share to guests.
