The Boquense Orthodox Church is the Eastern Orthodox Church branch in the Republic of La Boca. It is one of the autocephalous orthodox churches in South America, but on the other hand, it has a strong relation with the Ecumenical Patriarchy of Constantinople.
Relations between Orthodox Church and Politics in the Republic of La Boca
It began in the 2016 when the centrist politician Francis Fernández became the Prime Minister with a solid absolute majority. He claimed himself to be a follower of Eastern Orthodox Christian and opposer of Roman Catholicism. During his Premiership, nevertheless, Fernández sanctioned a decree to make Churches pay taxes 'as every citizen of our country does' when the signs of an upcoming crisis were felt.
