Bunkerization in Hesperidesia
Bunkerization in Hesperidesia refers to the policies during the 1960's to the early 1980's, enacted by the Emperor Tiberius IV, to construct hundreds of thousands of bunkers across Hesperidesia in order to deter foreign invasion and fend off insurgency.
During this era, there was a significant fear amongst many in the Imperial government that hostile powers would seek to take advantage of the turmoil of the Hesperidesian Revolutions and launch their own invasions of Hesperidesia. Additionally, there was a desire to establish fortifications to serve as blockhouses that could monitor and prevent insurgent activity in areas of the country where independence movements had taken root. What followed was a massive campaign of bunker construction, which led to the construction of more than 500,000 bunkers, many of which were placed in urban centers. The ambitious project was also enormously costly, diverting much-needed resources from the Wars in eastern Hesperidesia and draining the coffers of the Imperial treasury.
