The Central Gendarmerie (Amathian: Ⰻⰰⱀⰴⰰⱃⰿⰵⱃⰹⰰ Ⰽⰵⱀⱅⱃⰰⰾⱐ, tr. Jandarmeria Centrală), officially the Central Inspectorate of the Gendarmerie (Ⰹⱀⱄⱂⰵⰽⱅⱁⱃⰰⱅⱆⰾ Ⰽⰵⱀⱅⱃⰰⰾ ⰰⰾ Ⰻⰰⱀⰴⰰⱃⰿⰵⱃⰹⰵⰹ, Inspectoratul Central al Jandarmeriei), is one of the two federal police forces of Amathia, serving alongside the civilian Central Police. The Gendarmerie is a military police force with jurisdiction over the civilian population, being subordinated to the the civilian Central Ministry of Internal Affairs, but it does not have responsibility for policing the Amathian Armed Forces. It is used for maintaining public order and is tasked with specialized and difficult law enforcement situations, including counter-terrorism, even if in practice its authority sometimes overlaps with that of the civilian police, leading to an extensive and well organized policy of cooperation.

The Gendarmerie is considered to be the successor of the old Royal Gendarmerie Corps which functioned as a separate armed force during the existence of the Kingdom of Amathia, but it practice it is the successor of the Directorate for Protection Troops, the paramilitary law enforcement arm of the Equalist Authority for the Protection of the Republic, having gone through several depoliticization efforts and through a limitation of their military abilities. Its Gendarmes still however receive a highly militarized training, and are allowed to carry their assigned firearms at all times.

With a long history, and a tradition connected to their predecessors in Gaullica and in other Euclean states, the Amathian Gendarmes are widely considered to be a professional and distinguished force, being more reliable and trustworthy in the eyes of the general public than the civilian police. Due to the custom of the old Royal Gendarmerie of using mounted troops, the Gendarmes are also known under the nickname of "the Knights" (Ⰽⰰⰲⰰⰾⰵⱃⰹⰹ, Cavalerii).
