Charles Dennis Henry Rodman (born 15 April 1994) is an American professional soccer player whom currently plays as a winger for Major League Soccer club Inter Miami CF. The son of former American professional basketball player Dennis Rodman, he was an academy graduate of LA Galaxy, with whom he won the MLS Cup in his debut season, which he followed up with a U.S. Open Cup win in 2017. Eventually, in 2020, amidst a decline in club fortunes, Rodman signed for Inter Miami CF.

Since 2018, Rodman has represented the United States, with whom he won the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup and the 2021 CONCACAF Nations League. In addition, he also represented the United States at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where they were eliminated in the group stages.

Early Life

Born on 15 April 1994, Charles Rodman was the only son of the former American professional basketball player Dennis Rodman and the British royal Catherine, Princess Royal. Born as a result of a short-term romantic affair between his parents, Rodman initially grew up for roughly a year under his mother's care, until issues surrounding his parents' relationship compelled the latter to leave her son with her former partner. Following that, for the next few years or so, Rodman was otherwise raised single-handedly by his father until in April 1999, when following a breakdown in the marriage between his father and the American model, Carmen Electra, the younger Rodman was sent to live with his stepmother who duly took the five-year-old Rodman under her care. Meanwhile, through his father, Rodman is the half-brother of the American college basketball player DJ Rodman and the American professional soccer player Trinity Rodman. On the other hand, through his mother, he is also a first cousin of the United Kingdom's Queen Alexandra, former professional football player and manager William Smith, and English professional footballer Prince Richard who currently plays for Arsenal.

Club Career

LA Galaxy

At the start of the 2016 season, Rodman was promoted to the senior team from the academy ranks following an almost nine-year period. Shortly afterwards, on March 6th, in the very first match that season, Rodman scored a brace to mark a dominant 6-1 win over D.C. United with his second goal coming rather quickly at just the 28th minute to immediately offset an initial 5th-minute goal from D.C. United's Lamar Neagle. Then, on March 19th, Rodman scored his second goal for LA Galaxy in the 72nd minute in a 4-1 win over San Jose Earthquakes. Impressing further, after several matches that followed, Rodman scored his first-ever hat-trick in a 4-1 win over Portland Timbers, a feat that he later replicated in a similar 4-1 win over Sporting Kansas City. A third hat-trick came not long afterward in a 4-1 win over San Jose Earthquakes on May 22nd, which he followed up on afterward with two consecutive braces against Houston Dynamo and Portland Timbers whom fell 3-0 and 4-1 to LA Galaxy respectively. Soon enough, upon qualifying for the ensuing playoff rounds, Rodman made his mark once more by scoring a hat-trick in the second leg of the semi-finals against Colorado Rapids, allowing the club to eventually reach the MLS Cup final in his debut season where they subsequently defeated Toronto FC 4-1. In the meantime, the club's journey in the CONCACAF Champions League was otherwise cut short in the quarter-finals where despite a hat-trick from Rodman himself in the second leg of the quarter-finals against Santos Laguna, the club otherwise met defeat in a narrow 3-4 loss at the hands of their Mexican opponents. Nonetheless, Rodman himself marked a rather impressive debut for his club, scoring 20 goals in 25 appearances to become LA Galaxy's leading goalscorer that season

In the following season, despite another complimentary performance that saw Rodman score 22 goals in 27 appearances, LA Galaxy otherwise failed to qualify for the playoffs although this was soon compensated with a U.S. Open Cup in which Rodman notably scored a hat-trick in the quarter-finals to mark a surprise 5-3 win over San Jose Earthquakes, allowing LA Galaxy to then defeat Sporting Kansas City 1-0 in the semi-finals and later New York Red Bulls 2-0 in the finals. Following this, in 2018, a year that saw renowned Swedish footballer Zlatan Ibrahimović arrive at the club, LA Galaxy was otherwise able to qualify for the playoffs although they were soon eliminated 1-0 in the quarter-finals at the hands of derby rivals Los Angeles FC. Similarly, the club's journey at the CONCACAF Champions League was also cut short where following a narrow 4-3 win over Panamanian club Tauro, the club was otherwise defeated 3-4 by Mexican side Club América.

In 2019, Rodman's last season with LA Galaxy, the club once more qualified for the playoff rounds but they were otherwise defeated yet again by derby rivals Los Angeles FC 3-5 in the conference semi-finals. Meanwhile, in the U.S. Open Cup, despite an initial 3-0 win over Orange County FC in the fourth round, a heavy 4-0 defeat to Portland Timbers in the round of 16 saw them unable to progress further and therefore having their journey cut short. In another instance, despite Rodman himself then scoring a decisive tiebreaking brace against Club Tijuana in the quarter-finals, the club ultimately met defeat in the semi-finals at the hands of Cruz Azul. In the meantime, Rodman himself suffered a sudden decline in form, scoring only 12 goals in 17 appearances, a factor that reportedly led him to soon depart LA Galaxy for the newly-founded Inter Miami CF, a new Major League Soccer club founded by former England international David Beckham. Despite this, with 75 goals scored in 89 appearances, Rodman finished as the club's fourth leading goalscorer in Major League Soccer ahead of Cobi Jones in fifth with 70 goals and behind Robbie Keane in third with 83 goals.
