Chuncheon Obelisk

The Chuncheon Obelisk is an obelisk in Panjeom between the cities of Chuncheon and Inje. It was built to commemorate the Allied Offensive during the November Offensive. It was built at the site of the battlefield where Joyonghean general Chae Hwa-young made her stand against the invading Quenminese forces with the help of Edward Samegawa. It was also built a few meters away from the actual site where Edward confessed to Hwa-young and proposed to her. The site is a popular tourist destination for many couples and has been turned into a national park.
History
The Battlefield Today
Today, several sites were perfectly preserved. Including the Allied trenches that were used to defend against Quenminese charges. The trenches around the site where Hwa-young and Edward confessed were covered with soil in order to construct the Chuncheon Obelisk as well as the path the lovers took to find refuge after the battle. The farmhouse where they took refuge is now a museum.
The Theimer Firefly used in the battle was destroyed however, Edward recalled the scheme that the tank had and a replica was placed on the site where Edward ordered the first shot that took out the first Quenminese tank that was on sight. The battlefield was declared a national park in the 1990s after numerous tourist began to visit the site.
Lover's Statue
The Lover's Statue is a copper and bronze monument dedicated to Edward Samegawa and Chae Hwa-young. It was completed in 1994 and unveiled on the couple's wedding anniversary to commemorate the couple's 50 Years of Marriage as well as the 50 years of Zanarkian and Joyonghean relations. The couple was present during the unveiling of the monument.
The monument featured Edward and Hwa-young in their civilian life during the 1960s and imitated the pose that Edward and Hwa-young were on during the time of Edward's confession and the last minutes of the battle. The site is popular with many tourists, as well as couples. The monument was built on the exact same site where the couple stepped on at the time of Edward's confession. The area around it was a trench and the place where they were on was a flat piece of land. The trenches were covered in dirt to build a path to the farmhouse where the couple took refuge. The farmhouse is now a museum.
The statue was also featured on the Zanarkian-Joyonghean film, Flower Ring that recalls the experiences of Edward, especially his love story with Myung-dae. At the time of the release of the film, The monument received 651,752 visitors.
