The Collegium Lorencis (Occasionally known as the Koleg Lohreces in Vyvlander or College of Lorence in English) is a university in Lorence, Vyvland. It is the oldest university in Vyvland, and is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious. It is ranked as best in the country by EdOngeueng, Fe Bysbereer and UVV, and is known for its extensive research in addition to its successful graduates, many of whom go on to famous careers in politics or research in Vyvland. The university teaches over sixteen thousand students, a third of whom come from outside Vyvland.

Traditionally, the Collegium has held a rivalry with the smaller yet prestigious University of Vreusdi, which lies in the town of the same name. The two are consistently ranked as best and second-best by most sources on Vyvlander education. Before Vyvlander reunification in 1983, the Collegium was the dominant university in South Vyvland, and its staff held a reasonable amount of political weight, especially over the education system.

The Collegium is represented by the colours of puce and teal, which feature on its logo and on most official documents; the puce represents the robes of the monks who founded the precursor to the Collegium, while the teal is adapted from the light blue of Plains province and the city of Lorence. The two colours have been used to represent the university since at least 1400 AD. The Collegium's traditional emblem is a blackbird, which is also represented on its coat of arms and logo.

History

The Collegium originally served as a school for the training of monks, but in the 1100s education was broadened to those outside the church, and the college began to offer all-purpose vebnerheds ('squireships'), designed to test students in all areas. The university continues this practice to this day, with a few hundred students opting to take a degree in this form. The university gradually offered subject-specific courses in line with many educational establishments elsewhere, and became particularly well-renowned for its teaching of latin and philosophy. During the nationalist era, the Collegium became much more science-orientated, to deal with the workforce desires of the government at the time.

Location

The university is mainly situated in the city of Lorence, from which it takes its name, although it retains art and latin schools in Pegerms. The main buildings of the university, including the Royal House, are situated in a campus area centred around Majiasplaac, in the Overlohrec district, although much of the student accommodation as well as a few university buildings lie in central Lohrec's other quarter, Neferlohrec.
