The Grand Confederacy of Crematoria, commonly known as Crematoria, is an interstellar nation located in the first quadrant of the Centaurus Galaxy.
Crematoria consists of 9 sectors, 550 colonized planets, 134 special administrative zones, and 20 designated military zoens. It is the largest country by interstellar area. It shares borders with the Republic of Handoria, the Jasari League of Unions, and the Rotian United Republic. With a population of 5 trillion, Crematoria is the second most populous state in the galaxy, one of the most densely populated interstellar nations, and the most populous country in the first quadrant. The planetary capital of Crematoria is the planet Crematoria, with the administrative center being the city of Serevon.
The planet Crematoria, originally known as Kovalis has been inhabited since 40,000 AE. Ancient Kovalans were commonly nomads and operated in family units, and evolved like most near-human species, forming larger and larger unions until nations arose from the planet, claiming territory and setting boundaries. Beginning in the 1990s, multiple independent nations of Kovalis began to experience collapse, resulting in political turmoil that lead to the Template:Unification Wars, in which multiple nations engaged in international conflict, with no clearly defined sides. Lasting thirteen years, the conflict left much of Kovalis in ruins, with only one political entity still functioning: The Crematorian Empire. After the devastating conflict, Crematoria declared it's domain to be all of Kovalis, soon after renaming the planet to The Sublime State of Crematoria. With no enemies, the Sublime State flourished in the fields of technology, society, and economic progress. The planet was soon rebuilt from ruins, and Crematoria prospered under it's one government for many centuries.
Beginning in the 2230s, Crematoria engaged in a civil war against multiple insurgent groups, brought on by the Template:Basalt Massacre. Crematoria's military engaged in armed combat with five militant groups for five years, ending with a decisive Crematorian victory, however resulting in a massive restructuring of the government and the foundation of the Grand Confederacy of Crematoria, as a result of the discovery faster-than-light space travel shortly after the war. The current constitution of the Grand Confederacy was amended in 2245.
The Grand Confederacy is governed by a single political party, having no opposition except the factions within itself. The NCPWP controls every inch of the government, from the judicial branch to the executive and parliament, with the Supreme Chancellor getting final say in all decisions. The Supreme Chancellor is the one and only head of state, and is assisted by his or her cabinet, also known as the The Web, which consists of department leaders (secretaries) from all ends of the government who advise the Supreme Chancellor. The government is separated into the executive, legislative, and judicial branches, with the rest of the government consisting of various departments, bureaus, agencies, and offices.
Crematoria is a highly developed nation that has the highest median income of any polity in the galaxy. It is the galaxy's largest importer and second-largest exporter. Crematoria is a founding member of the Galactic Community, Galactic Bank, Galactic Health Board, and a permanent member of the Galactic Council. It is the galaxy's foremost political, cultural, economic, military, and scientific force.
Etymology
The first documented use of Crematoria dates back to before the nation controlled the planet, used by explorers to the region in 1320 to describe the large basalt fields and many volcanoes. The region's natives called the land (Khæsér Lawp) or (The) Land of Fire. These names began to be used interchangeably after explorers made contact with the region's settlers. With the founding of the Empire of Crematoria, the name was first amended into the constitution.
A citizen of Crematoria is called a "Crematorian". "The Grand Confederacy", "Crematorian", and "G.C." refer to the country as an adjective, such as "Crematorian values" or "G.C. forces".
