On December 10, 2022 in Atlanta, Georgia, as a recount was taking place due to the 2022 Georgia Senate Runoff between incumbent Democratic Senator Michael Campbell and Republican challenger Julius Wencroft. The mob was orchestrated by a seditious conspiracy seeking to make sure that Wencroft took the seat regardless of the final vote tally. According to officials, the attack was the culmination of a plan enacted by neo-Confederates, neo-Nazis, and others to strengthen the Republican Party's control in Georgia and other Southern states. At least 50 people died either shortly before, during, or following the event. Many people were injured, including dozens police officers.
