The Department of Fisheries is a federal department in the Caldan Union responsible for developing policies in support of its economic, ecological, and scientific interests in its waters, both coastal and inland. It has a mandate for promoting conservation and sustainable use of Caldan fisheries. It provides safe and environmentally sound marine servies to meet the needs of Caldans in a global economy. The department is directly and exclusively responsible for conservation and development of salt water fisheries and shares that responsibility with provincial officials when it comes to freshwater fisheries. The department has an extensive scientific staff with expertise in marine life that works in cooperate with research institutions around the country and the world. It also has an enforcement branch used to prevent poaching, overfishing, and dumping.
