The Directorate of Special Forces (Nordic: Spesialstyrkedirektoratet lit. 'Special Forces Directorate') (Kanienʼkéha: Atëhna’nötar’sosondowah lit. 'Those who follow The Great Hunter's wisdom') is a command component of the Royal Gristo-Serkonan Armed Forces. It is responsible for all special forces operations that are capable of responding to terrorism and threats to Gristol-Serkonos and its interests around the world. The Directorate is a high-readiness organization, ready to deploy forces on short notice to defend Gristo-Serkonan interests from threats to the national interest at home and abroad. It is comprised of units drawn from the Armed Forces as well as the Royal Gendarmerie.

Combined Task Forces

The Directorate employs an integrated operating concept that combines the capabilities of all units in a Combined Special Task Forces capable of completing assigned missions and tasks. Using various combinations of personnel drawn from the 401 SO Battalion, the SBSR, the 904 MC Battalion, the 18 Battalion, the Joint Special Operations Aviation Wing, and parts of the Support Service Component are assembled into a Combined Special Task Force (CSTF) in order to accomplish mission parameters.

Based on requirement to respond to certain threats assigned to the RGSAF by the Gristo-Serkonan Government, the Directorate has developed several standing CSTFs:

• Combined Special Task Force Hussar: A high readiness task force available to the Government of Gristol-Serkonos. Comprised of personnel drawn from all DSF units and is led by the 401 SO Battalion. Primary tasks include, counter-terrorism operations both domestic and international, hostage rescue, direct action, CBRN response, sensitive-site exploitation, counter-proliferation, and maritime special operations.
• Combined Special Task Force Spearhead: CSTF Spearhead is a scalable, agile force capable of responding to threats and incidents around the globe on short notice.
• Combined Special Task Force Nightraven: Small teams of DSF personnel perform tasks that fall outside the scope of the two standing task forces. Nightraven teams generally deploy for short periods, typically not longer than six months. Nightraven teams are made up of personnel and capabilities from all four units. Tasks include defence, diplomacy and military assistance, strategic advice, planning and liaison, strategic reconnaissance and security support to operations of other Government of Gristol-Serkonos organizations.
• Combined Support Team Asclepius : A specialized task force comprised primarily of combat medics and surgeons within DSF units. A deployed CSTF would include two Asclepius teams of three operators comprised of a surgeon, anesthesiologist, and a medic. These teams would be deployed in close proximity to the front-line during wartime.
