Culture

The Drei culture revolves around the belief in a constant clash between two cosmic entities, the Tagmann and the Nachtmann. The Tagmann is considered to be the Champion of the Sun, and through his prowess in martial combat, rises each morning in order to do battle with the dreaded Nachtmann. Their combat is everlasting, with the Tagmann and Nachtmann each gaining the advantage during their respective times of day. The Tagmann is also the god of friendship, and encourages humanity to work together, collectively, to stand against the darkness of the night. According to Drei myth, inevitably, the Tagmann will lose, and it will be left to the Drei to raise up and do battle with the Nachtmann themselves, lest they be left in a world ruled by darkness forever. As such, the Tagmann encourages the Drei to form clans, and to constantly maintain their skills in the arts of war, preparing them for the future battle against the Nachtmann in the end times.

A third cosmic force also exists in the Drei mythology in the form of a troll who roams the earth, gathering unruly children to serve as slave warriors for the Nachtmann. This troll, named Rheinald, actively seeks out dishonest children because he believes that they would be best suited to do battle against the Tagmann, who represents virtue and honesty. The only way for dishonest children to avoid being taken by Rheinald is to leave a small offering to their parents, known as a Troll-Maut, to save their souls.
