Education in Fratanica

Education in Fratanica is a decentralized system with little federal intervention, with such responsibilities falling upon the various provincial governments. The federal government loosely participates in educational policy, however, their role has gotten stronger in educational affairs as of late. Students are mandated to attend school for 13 years minimum, from Years 1 through 13. Nursery education is provided to children from 1 to 4 years old. School is mandatory by the age of 5 and above. Fratanica's education system has resulted in high rates of literacy, as well as excellent scores in reading comprehension, writing, sciences, and mathematics. Fratanica's system is fairly competitive, resulting in lower rates of self-esteem and happiness amongst students. However, these pressures have also transformed Fratanica's labor force into one of the most educated in the world.

School curriculums and standards vary from province to province, however, the general system of education remains uniform across all provinces. The progression of students annually is classified as Years. Typically, schoolchildren ages 1 to 4 partake in the nursery phase, which is considered optional. Beginning at the age of 5, students are enrolled in primary school from Year 1 to Year 6. Secondary school is mostly divided into two parts: lower and upper secondary school, however, this varies by province. Lower secondary school is classified as students undergoing Years 7 through 9, whereas upper secondary school is classified as students undergoing Years 10 through 13. Students have the option of taking vocational school in place of upper secondary school, in order to prepare for certain parts of the labor force. All students are required, between Years 11 and 12, to undergo the rigorous Federal Education Certification Examination, in order to complete a student's required education and move on into the workforce. In addition, students may also take the Tertiary Education Qualification Assessment, a test required by most Fratanican universities. The most prestigious universities may require a separate test administered by them, which discourages applications to multiple prestigious institutions.

Tertiary education is optional to take, however, 72.9% of Fratanican students between the ages of 16 and 19 aspire to attend a college. There is a three-tier classification of universities throughout Fratanica: universities, select universities, and specialized institutions.
