Empireedy, formally known as The Empire of Empireedy, is a sovereign nation situated in Southern Elisia. It is a member of the Telrovan Assembly and the Southern Elisia Commonwealth, and it is bordered by Fendiralia to the east and La Cour Montclair to the west. Empireedy has a complex and fascinating history, which includes a period of monarchy that ended in the late 1700s. The exact date of the collapse of the monarchy is a matter of debate among historians, with some arguing that it occurred in 1757, when the reigning monarch died without naming any heirs or having any living family members. This prompted the people of Empireedy to elect a leader, a tradition that has continued into modern times.
History
Feudal Age- Empire of Empireedy
During the Monarchy, Under Queen Clemence's reign, Empireedy expanded its territories through colonization and established significant influence in surrounding regions such as what in modern day became The Celtics and La Cour Montclair. The colonial period in these territories saw significant social and cultural changes brought about by Empireedy's colonization efforts. One of the most notable changes was the introduction of the Empireedian language, religion, and traditions to the colonized territories. As Empireedy established its presence in these regions, it brought with it its own way of life, which gradually replaced the existing cultural practices of the region. The Empireedian language became the dominant language, and the Empireedian religion supplanted the indigenous religious practices.
This cultural transformation was not without resistance, however. Many indigenous communities resisted the imposition of Empireedian culture, and some even organized armed resistance against Empireedy's colonization efforts. Nevertheless, Empireedy's military might proved too great for most of these resistance movements to overcome, and the Empireedian culture continued to spread throughout the colonized territories. While some aspects of local culture were preserved, particularly in more remote regions of the colonies, the dominant culture became increasingly Empireedian. This cultural shift was accompanied by changes in governance and social structure as well. The decentralized governance structures that had existed in these territories prior to Empireedy's arrival were replaced by centralized systems of governance, with Empireedian officials appointed to oversee the colonies.
This cultural transformation was accompanied by a complex set of power dynamics between the Empireedy government and the various groups that made up the population of the coloines. The indigenous populations, who had lived in the region for centuries prior to Empireedy's arrival, were marginalized and often exploited for their labor and resources. At the same time, various groups of settlers and immigrants from Empireedy itself competed for power and influence within the colonies.
The establishment of La Cour Montclair as a colony under Empireedy in 1542 had a profound impact on the region's history and development. The region was initially sparsely populated, with only a few scattered settlements and a small indigenous population. However, it offered a wealth of natural resources that were in high demand in Empireedy, particularly timber and mineral resources. Under Empireedy's control, La Cour Montclair grew rapidly, with new settlers arriving from the nation to take advantage of the region's opportunities. The colony's economy was based primarily on resource extraction, with timber and minerals being exported back to Empireedy. The colony also established trade relationships with other nearby regions, further fueling its economic growth.
However, the arrival of Empireedy also brought significant changes to the governance structure of La Cour Montclair. The Empireedy government established a centralized system of governance, with a governor appointed to oversee the colony and enforce the laws of the Empire. This represented a significant departure from the decentralized governance structure that had existed in La Cour Montclair prior to Empireedy's arrival. Under the new system of governance, the city-states that had previously existed in La Cour Montclair were dissolved, and the judges lost much of their autonomy. Instead, they now served as officials of the Empireedy government rather than representatives of their local communities. This shift in governance structures had significant impacts on local communities, particularly those who had previously enjoyed greater autonomy and self-determination.
Elections and Politics
Government
Empireedy is a polytheistic oligarchy, meaning that power is held by a small group of people from different political parties. The three main political parties in Empireedy are the Gramessis, the Ventarido, and the Diaspora, each with its own set of beliefs and values. The leader of the oligarchy in Empireedy is known as the oligarch, who is chosen by a vote among the members of the oligarchy. As the head of the oligarchy, the oligarch has significant power and authority in Empireedy. They are responsible for overseeing the government and ensuring that policies are enacted in accordance with the principles of the ruling parties. The oligarch is also responsible for representing the nation in diplomatic matters, negotiating with other nations and organizations on behalf of Empireedy.
The role of oligarch is not permanent, and the position is subject to a recall vote by the members of the oligarchy if they deem the current leader to be unfit for office. This system of recall elections is intended to ensure that the oligarch remains accountable to the people and that their leadership is in the best interests of the nation. The current Oligarch is Evangeline Miller.
Elections
Empireedy's system of government is based on an oligarchic model, where a small group of individuals hold power and make decisions on behalf of the nation. The leaders of Empireedy are chosen through a process of recall elections, where a current leader can be removed from office if they are deemed to be unfit for their position. This system is unique in that it does not involve a traditional general election process, where candidates compete for office and voters choose among them. It is important to note that Empireedy has a three-party system, consisting of the Gramessis, the Ventarido, and the Diaspora. During the recall elections, the three parties typically put forth their own candidate to replace the incumbent leader if they are removed from office.
Under the recall election system, any citizen of Empireedy can initiate a recall petition against a sitting leader. This process requires a certain number of signatures from eligible voters in order to proceed, and if enough signatures are obtained, a recall election is scheduled. In this election, voters are given a simple choice of either keeping the current leader in office or removing them and selecting a new leader. The leader with the most votes will either retain their position or be replaced, depending on the outcome of the election.
The recall election system in Empireedy is based on the First Past the Post (FPTP) system, where the candidate with the most votes wins. This system has been criticized by some for potentially leading to situations where a candidate can win with a minority of the total vote. However, supporters of the FPTP system argue that it is simple and easy to understand, and that it encourages a two-party system, which can help to prevent the fragmentation of political power.
Cities
Empireedy is divided into eight counties, each of which is named after and centered around a major city. Haphis is the capital city of Empireedy and is the largest city in the nation. Haphis is home to many historic landmarks and cultural attractions, such as the Historic Imperial Palace, the National Museum of Empireedy, and the Haphis Grand Cathedral. St Ventari is another significant city in Empireedy, known for its beautiful architecture and cultural heritage. It is a hub of education and art, with several prestigious universities and museums located in the city. Haphis, as the capital city of Empireedy, is a bustling metropolis that is home to a wide range of businesses and industries. It is known for being a very economically developed zone, with a strong emphasis on commerce and trade. The city's economy is dominated by a variety of industries, including finance, technology, tourism, and real estate. The city is also home to many high-end retail stores, luxury hotels, and gourmet restaurants, catering to both locals and tourists.
South Hyward and North Hyward are two cities located in close proximity to each other, forming a major economic hub in the region. The cities are home to many industries, including manufacturing, agriculture, and mining. St Diaspo, located on the west coast, is known for its scenic beaches and picturesque waterfront, making it a popular destination for tourism and weddings. Many hotels and resorts in St Diaspo offer wedding packages, attracting couples from both Empireedy and abroad. The city also has a thriving arts and culture scene, with numerous galleries, museums, and theaters showcasing local talent. Wemwich is a quaint city located in the heart of Empireedy's agricultural region. It is known for its picturesque countryside and is a popular destination for tourists seeking a peaceful retreat. Starshill is situated in the mountains and is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts. It offers many hiking trails, scenic views, and opportunities for adventure sports. St Grameiss is another a coastal city located in the eastern part of Empireedy, known for its rich fishing grounds. The city's economy is centered around fishing, with numerous fishing boats and processing facilities operating in the area. St Grameiss is also home to a thriving seafood industry, with many local restaurants serving up fresh catches of the day. The city is a popular destination for fishing enthusiasts, who come from all over to take advantage of the excellent fishing opportunities in the area.
