Ernst Hofner (born May 21st, 1953) was the 13th Minister of Finance of the United Kingdom of Malgrave.

Early life and career

Ernst Hofner was born in Epping Central Hospital on the 17th of September 1955 to Angela and Harald Hofner. As Harald was a senior planner in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development Ernst lived in the centre of the city in a tight-knit community far from the poorer outskirts of the city still suffering a lack of housing and the pollution caused by round the clock construction.

During his time at secondary school his teachers noted that he had an aptitude for advanced mathematics and statistics and he was consequently moved into a higher class for that field. It was at Royal Epping University when Ernst first met with someone outside of his community on an extended level, rather shocked at the continued state of some part of the country he developed an interest in politics during his second year and joined the then Progressive Party in 1975 becoming an advocate of the left-wing economic policies of the party.

After leaving university Ernst accepted a position at MalBank but found the position to be unfulfilling and quit after a two year stint accepting a senior position with the Ancestral Study Group as part of an operation that dealt with the separation of families caused by the civil war.

Ernst continued to work for the ASG until he resigned to run as a candidate for the Progressive Unity Party in 1985 Malgravean General Election to which he was elected to the Chamber of Representatives and assigned a junior position as the Ministry of Finance.

Minister of Finance

Following the successful election of the PUP in the 2000 Malgravean General Election Ernst was chosen as the Minister of Finance, an expected promotion given his long history with the party and educational background. As the country was exiting isolation Ernst was tasked with reforming the nations tax code and working together with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to ensure that state and non-state enterprises could handle the expected increase in competition when foreign companies started opening rival chains in the country alongside the typical roles of budgetary concerns.

Ernst has become known for his tough stance on tax avoidance and his fiery speeches on social solidarity and workers rights and has been listed several times in lists detailing the most respected politicians in the country.
