The Federated Empire of Spokane, otherwise simply known as Spokane, is a country located in western Borealia, in Lands End, consisting of 21 provinces and an imperial city. Its land area measures 357,970 square miles (927,140 square kilometers) with a population of 182,548,226, which is the second largest in Lands End. The national capital and the largest city is Medical Lake; other major cities include Seattle, Rochester, Snohomish and Grays Harbor.
Spokane is a member of BASO. It is notable for its fusion of northern Amnis and Borealian cultures, its rapid economic growth beginning in the 1960s, and its prowess as a major tech manufacturing powerhouse of Lands End. Its large coastal riverine plains along with its Mediterranean climate allow for Spokane to be a major producer of fruits, vegetables and various alcoholic beverages for the Borealian market, with these terrains also facilitating manufacturing that provided $1.10 trillion in value in 2024, with the largest sectors and contributors to its exports being tech products and parts (about 45% of exports and 34% of manufacturing added value).
Spokane was formed out of two western Borealian colonies, an Artevenian and Hansan, and was given its independence from Hansa in 1940 after the Hanseatic defeat in the Great War, with General Harrison Peter Grant being crowned its first emperor. The new Empire of Spokane would then fight against Artevenian gains in the region, with Spokane annexing large portions of Artevenian Western Borealia in 1951, with the remainder gaining independence as the Kingdom of Micalandia.
Harrison Peter I would turn the former colony into a technocratic state, with a military engineer-run government, and his top priority being the rapid industrialization of the country, beginning a run of economic growth averaging 9.2% between 1951 and the 1998 Borealian financial crisis, continuing after his death in 1987, under a state-led market model. Corresponding movements towards democracy and further liberalization were stalled after crackdowns in 1988 after the coronation of Emperor Jay I and the introduction of socially conservative policies, and especially in 2023, after a constitutional crisis that saw Harrison Charles II briefly overthrown by a conservative and pro-parliament Prince Adam, before being restored after a BASO intervention and consolidating his own power in the technocratic National Constructionist Party.
