Firearms regulation in Acrea

Firearms regulation in Acrea is relatively permissive in respect to similarly developed states in Tyran, and allows the acquisition of semi-automatic and- with stricter regulation and permits- fully-automatic firearms by Acrean citizens. Regulations concern both the acquisition and ownership of firearms. Firearm ownership is legally considered a privilege and not a right within Acrea, and so is governed by a robust and comprehensive licensing and permit system combined with firearm registration for certain classes of firearm as defined by law.

Acrean gun culture evolved from a long, strong tradition of compulsory military service and recreational shooting, both of which have formed key parts of Acrean national identity. Many parts of Acrea have a strong hunting traditions, which is built upon by competition marksmanship tied to local annual shooting festivals known as Skyttefestivaler (German: Schützenfeste, French: Festivals de tirs) which hold numerous competitions and are celebrated across Acrea. Shooting clubs are a frequent part of communal life outside of major cities in Acrea. Recreational shooting is often considered to be an evolution of similar practices during festivals and other communal celebrations in imperial and medieval Acrea, where martial competitions such as axe-throwing, javelin-throwing, jousting, and fencing were commonly held.
