The SC-1 is an assault rifle manufactured by Flynn Firearms that currently sees service in the Imperial Castarcian Armed Forces, affectionately nicknamed the 'Avenger' by many servicemen and servicewomen. It is also a popular weapon with police firearms units and even in the civilian market.

History

Development

The SC-1 rifle was designed beginning in early 2002 by Flynn Firearms (a subsidiary of Flynn Industries) in order to meet a requirement issued by the Imperial Castarcian Armed Forces in late 2001, specifying for a new standard service rifle. High Command wished to equip itself with modern weaponry now that the 21st century had began and desired to eliminate older rifles that were about fifty years old from frontline service, and wished for a universal infantry firearm that could be issued to all branches.

Trevor Martin Robson was placed in charge of 'Operation SR21' - meaning Service Rifle 21(st century) - which was a project with the aim and objective of creating a contemporary and reliable rifle that was fit for application in all environments and by any manner of person, whether military or civilian. A 5.56 x 45mm round was selected.

Adoption

100 early rifles were sent to a mix of army, naval, air force and special forces units for initial evaluation and testing. The rifles were generally well-liked, but several of the old guard kept no secrets that they had a preference for older, sturdier designs that had proven to be reliable in the harshest of conditions. This wasn't helped by the fact that at this point, the rifle lacked clear instructions on proper maintenance and some had been sent without cleaning kits. In subsequent retrials when these things were provided, an overwhelming majority of servicemen and servicewomen reported that they were satisfied with the gun.

In November 2007, the order was given to mass produce the SC-1 and it officially entered service on New Years Day 2008.

Service History

Great Castarcian War

On November 11 2008, the Empire of Allied Castarcian States entered a state of war. At this time, not all units had been completely equipped with SC-1A1 rifles (the A1 designation signifying the official first variant in military service) as production had not been particularly high. This ramped up soon after war was declared, and the weapon was also widely sold in civilian markets as worried people wished to defend their homes as best they could if the situation arose.

The weapon quickly became popular, especially with new recruits, thanks to its relative ease of use and the fact that it proved highly adept at killing enemy soldiers.

Variants

SC-1A1

The first major mass production run of the assault rifle variant of the SC-1. This variant is the most commonly sold on the civilian markets and sees service with tactical firearms unit of the Castarcian Police Force. It is being gradually phased out in the Imperial Castarcian Armed Forces in favour of the SC-1A2.

SC-1A2

The SC-1A2 is an updated variant of the A1 that has seen complaints about reliability and other such matters addressed.

SC-1S

The SC-1S is a carbine variant of the SC-1 which is better suited to close quarters combat. The S stands for small, as it is shorter and lighter than the standard rifle.

SC-1H

The SC-1H is a denomination of the SC-1 which serves as a light machine gun/infantry support weapon/squad automatic weapon within the armed forces. It features a drum magazine capable of holding 80 cartridges. The H stands for heavy and the SC-1H is indeed the lagest variant of the SC-1 design to date.

ASP-116

The locally produced Grozav Iniman variant of the SC-1, the changes made to the SC-1S are marginal. Most prominently the ASP-116 features a slightly longer barrel than the SC-1S, which remains noticeably shorter than the SC-1A2.

ASP-116S

The ASP-116S is capable of firing a three round burst, as well as being capable of holding an increased number of optics, muzzle, and under-barrel attachments.
