A Centaur Class Destroyer, an example of a warship built to Freestian standards

The Design Philosphy of Freethinker Naval Vessels is a subject of note in maritime circles. Freestian warships are, generally larger, more versatile, more expensive and better protected than most peer classes, a result of a unique geographical and economic set of constraints and design priorities. The doctrine of the Freethinker Royal Navy relies upon being able to establish maritime superiority in multiple areas utilising a smaller number of more powerful combatants in comparison to potentials rivals. Freestian designs are also notable in their adaption for heavy, large scale surface engagements, often being both more heavily armed, and protected, than most rival designs.

Freestian Design - Common Associated Features

Freestian warships tend to be signficantly different in layout, displacement, role and equipment than equivelantly designated vessels in other navies. This does not follow for all vessels, but generally speaking

Operational Experience

It should be noted that perhaps the greatest benefit achieved by the Freethinker Royal Navy over the years has been its reputational improvement. The potential, rather than actually deployed level of firepower, allows the Freestian government to influence policy in external locations through the deployment of relatively limited assets. Future Developments

The FRN's large allocation of the defence budget has come under pressure from other services, particularly the Celestial Forces as the Commonwealth's interstellar expansion continues.
