Early Life
Garfield Mayweather was born on Feburary 20th, 1836 inside his parents barn, born an only child Garfield was groomed to take up the family farm after his fathers death. Early in his childhood however, following a slave revolt which took place when he was born rich plantation owners purchased his fathers farmland to recoup losses. Garfield's father bought a home in Vermesa, Nickoltia; the state capital and largest city in New Rodack and began giving Garfield a political education instead. When he was old enough to attend Nickoltia State College, he eventually was able to thanks to the funds his father gave him, and he pursued a degree in economics and political science. Garfield was an attentive student with strong morals and principles, often engaging in ideological debate and argument with his teachers and fellow classmates. He graduated in 1868 with a doctorates degree in political science and a bachelors degree in economics.
Political Career
Garfield Mayweather entered the world of politics very soon after graduating, and was very unpopular among the higher up elites. This was because of his controversial views on the system in New Rodack and his unusual empathy towards the lower class. Regardless, his ideas picked up traction with some politicians of his caliber and his ideas eventually spread throughout Nickoltia. Word of his progressive attitudes were immensely popular within Nickoltia and was elected to position of governor of Nickoltia in 1876, within his year as governor Garfield put forth sweeping reforms to cut down on unemployment, wealth inequality, and crime problems. These issues proved wildly successful as the economy of Nickoltia experienced unprecedented growth and cemented it's position as the economic heartland of New Rodack. When his term ended in 1877, many suggested he run for office and try to push against the wealthy elites throughout all of New Rodack. He did, and despite his unpopularity with the governors themselves the people voted massively in favor of Garfield over his much younger and inexperienced opponent Mich Connery.
