Kriel's entrance in to Kleinberg politics was when he was a young man in Hanekom Universiteit, one of Kleinberg's most prestigous universities. Kriel's first run for public office was in 1990, when he ran for a delegat position in the Volksraad. Kriel, despite projected to win against Wikus Arendse, lost in a close race. Kriel would try again next election cycle in 1995, yet lost against the incumbent Arendse. Kriel's political career would go one a fifteen year hiatus. During this period Kriel was a rising radio and podcast host who gathered the support base to run, and win, in his delegate campaign for the Volksraad in 2010. Serving his five year term as a delegate on behalf of Hawe-Republiek, Kriel rose the through the ranks within the Baanbreken Volksparty and would run against his political nemesis Wikus Arendse for Staatspresident 2016.
