The Ghepardo-class corvette is one of the most numerous surface combatant in service with the Imperial Ghantish Navy. Despite its relatively small size, vessels of this class possess oceanic range and are true blue-water naval assets. Primarily intended for anti-surface warfare, the ship is also well-equipped for anti-submarine duties with its combination of hull-mounted and towed sonar array as well as an advanced ASW helicopter. Equipped with up to 32 medium-ranged and 21 short-ranged anti-air missiles, it is also well-suited to either local area defence or point defence against aerial threats. Owing to this multiplicity of capabilities, Ghepardo-class vessels are often regarded by the international naval community as the equivalent of small frigates.

Corvettes play a central role in Ghantish naval doctrine. As long range oceanic combat units, corvettes of the IGN's patrol force allow Ghant to project its influence worldwide at modest cost, carrying out a wide variety of duties such as gunboat diplomacy, sea route patrol and commerce protection and anti-piracy either unilaterally or as part of a coalition. In wartime, Ghepardo-class vessels can take on the function of frigates in other navies, escorting convoys or reinforcing one of Ghant's carrier or amphibious strike groups where necessary.
