Gilan, officially the State of Gilan, sometimes referred to by its old name, the Satrapy of Gilan, is a sovereign state in West Asia. A unitary presidential republic, it consists of 28 counties, bounded by where rural workers go to work in the main cities. It’s population of 5,130,495 leaves it as the 123rd most populous country. It’s capital city Rasht is the most populous city at 803,342. Including it’s metropolitan area, Gilan county, this number rises to 1,965,123.
