Giovanni Tanner (born May 27th, 1938) is a Zamastanian filmmaker. He is best known for directing films in the science fiction, crime, and historical drama genres. His work is known for its atmospheric and highly concentrated visual style, and he is considered one of the industry's most innovative filmmakers, regularly making use of novel technologies. Tanner began his career directing short films and commercials. Tanner's debut as a film director came in 1977 with Defenseless and he gained wider recognition with his next film, the sci-fi epic Angel Moon (1980) Tanner has received many accolades throughout his career. Tanner's non-fiction war films - Ridgeline, Inferno, and Chapuis - have been labeled among the best historical films ever made. He has recieved many accolades for his work, including several Best Picture and Best Director nominations, winning both for Chapuis at the 97th Tofino Film Festival.
