The Gorgon MLRS is an Arthuristan rocket artillery platform. It entered service with the Commonwealth Army in 1984, intended to replace traditional heavy artillery of Emmerian origin such as the M110 howitzer or M107 self-propelled gun. It serves to provide long range interdiction capability to divisional and corps artillery. After the network upgrade of the mid-2000s, Gorgons have been linked into the ARES Battlenet. Batteries can share targeting data with reconnaissance units, UAVs, forward observers and the Fire Direction Centre in real time, rapidly increasing its reaction speed on the battlefield.

Ammunition

The Gorgon is primarily intended to provide a deep attack capability to divisional and corps artillery using cluster munitions. Its primary armament is the 227mm rocket, which may carry either a unitary high explosive warhead or serve as a dispenser for DPICM submunitions. The Gorgon's launch system is equipped with two rocket pods, each with capacity for six 227mm rockets for a total of twelve in total. Each may also serve as a launcher for a single ACM-6 ABIMS tactical ballistic missile.

Currently, the following 227mm rockets are in service:

  • GR-1: Cluster warhead with 642 dual-purpose submunitions. Range: 32km. Unguided.
  • GR-2: Extended range cluster rocket with 514 submunitions. Range: 45km. Unguided.
  • GR-4: Extended-range dispenser for 4-6 AMTI submuntions, 40-50km. Unguided.
  • GR-3: SATNAV-guided extended range cluster rocket with 404 submunitions. Range: 60km
  • GR-4: Dispenser for 27 scatterable anti-tank mines. Range: 40km. Unguided.
  • GR-5: SATNAV-guided rocket with 90kg unitary warhead. Range: 80km+
