The Grand Prefecture of Nakabe (大日本県 Dai Nippon Ken lit. Greater Japanese Prefecture) is a member state of the Imperial and Federal Union. Located fringeward of the Lusatian Veil from the Enlisian Mark, the Grand Prefecture of Nakabe is the largest single member state of the R.u.B Union, and enjoys a privileged position within the Union, distinct from many of the other member states due to the Prefecture's sheer size and power. The Grand Prefecture of Nakabe was established in 228 P.L. by settlers from the colony ship Hakudo Maru, originating from the Greater Japanese Empire on Old Terra. The Grand Prefecture independently developed warp drive, and was able to establish a number of colonies throughout Translusatia, and engaged heavily in trade with the then burgeoning economies of the Beta Quadrant. Connection with the relatively new Imperial and Federal Union did not occur till after the opening of the Enlisian Corridor in 839 P.L.

As the Nakabe Prefecture controlled the primary trade routes from the R.u.B Union fringeward towards the thriving Betan empires, tensions between the Prefecture and Union were high, even as trade and exchange grew dramatically.

Culture

The Grand Prefecture of Nakabe's culture evolved mostly independently from the rest of the galaxy throughout its early history. As such, the its culture retains a strong similarity to the original Japanese that provided the settlement ship that developed into Nakabe. However, with the opening of the Enlisian Corridor and development of transition travel, Nakabe gained contact with both the burgeoning Imperial & Federal Union, along with other colonised worlds in the Translusatian region.
