Great Weraya is made up of the island of Weraya which contains the city of Weraya and over ninety smaller islands in (insert name of straight) in the region of Katzen. The nation is very small at only 725 square kilometres but is home to 7.1 million people. This is due to the city of Weraya which takes up 75% of the entire nations area. Some of the outer islands that are under Werayan rule are disputed among several nations. It shares maritime borders with Kankiesi-Tos Dual Republic to the north, Coolandia to the south and Nooth-Kemmor to the east.

Etymology

The name "Weraya" can be traced back thousands of years. It is beleived to mean "place of rest" or "place of sanctuary". The great in Great Weraya comes from the fact that Weraya is no longer one islsnd but a group of islands. In Werayan the name for the country is "Groß Varai"

History

Pre and post unification

Weraya was made up of hundreds of small nations which were at constant war with each other. In 1012 AD the city of Weraya was founded in the north of the island of Weraya. It was originally made up of a small castle and a few settlements. In 1056 the nation was united in the city when the leaders of the eight largest nations came together to form the nation of Weraya to form the Werayan Confederation. This Werayan state was headed by each of the eight leaders of the Werayan nations. In 1077 a ninth nation was added with the conquest of Oldugg.

Colonisation

In the 1600's the city of Weraya saw a huge boom as many moved to the nation which by now had become a large centre of commerce. Nations like the 2nd Kanskiesi Empire began to trade more and take a greater interest in Weraya. Seventy years later in 1670 the Kankiesi Empire sent a force to take control of thd islands, resistance to their military was futile and the islands became a dominion of The Kanskiesi Empire in late 1670. Originally there was much discontempt towards their rule but this wained as The Dual Republic did not opress the people of Weraya or their traditions in any way.

In 1723 The Kankiesi Empire invaded and took control of seven other islands in the (Insert mame of Straight) and awarded them to the domnion of Weraya. This is when Weraya came to be known as Greater or Great Weraya.

While a dominion of The Kankiesian Empire Great Weraya's economy grew rapidly with new industry such as steel and ironworks taking hold as well as the banking sector becoming one of the best in the world. Many Werayans were hsppy under the dual Republic. Some however wanted a new self governing Weraya.

Independence

In 1807 the Werayan National Party was founded. It campaigned for Werayan independence from The The Kankiesian Empire. They protested all over the nation and gained a great deal of support from the populace. Eventually in mid 1807 The The Kankiesian Empire was forced to recognise the independence movement. It took until 1809 for the Werayan accords to be signed and Great Weraya to become an independent nation once more.

Modern Day

Since independence in 1809 Great Weraya's population has grown to three and a half million people. The nation is now recognised as a city state as the city of Weraya grew to encompass thr entire northern half of the island of Weraya. Great Weraya has a very robust Industrial and banking sector and shares good relations with the Kankiesi-Tos Dual Republic and it's other neighbours.

Geography

Great Weraya is made up of nine large islands and over ninety smaller islands. The nine main islands are mistly flat and much of their land has been reclaimed from the sea. The largest city in the country is on the nation's largest island; Weraya snd also sgares it's name. It takes up around a third of the island of Weraya. Overall the nation's historic woodland and jungle has largely been destroyed due to large scale utbsn development. In the 1970's large scale land reclamation saw the idland's area increase by 9%. The highest peak in the country id on the island of Oldugg (Murakampa, 170 m). Great Weraya does not have any large lakes. Thr longest river in the country the Stiber runs east to west and through part of the city of Weraya. In recent years considerable effort to re-introduce Weraya's old woodland has seen a mass comeback of wildlife to the islands. In the late 19th century the "Groseßdeik" project was passed which saw a huge smount of land reclamation.
