The Gryphon-class is are a class of support ships within the Belfrasian Royal Navy. The class is a hybrid between an air defence frigate and a military transport ship/command ship with an impressive array of multi-role capabilities. The class is capable of being transformed from a combat vessel to a hospital ship, troop transport, or command vessel within a day.

Design

The class design is based upon a failed candidate for a Draganesti-bound patrol frigate. The design was elongated and made taller to fit an internal multipurpose deck with a vehicle ramp on the stern of the vessel. The ship is capable of serving as a transport and base of operations for a company-sized force of 200 men with their vehicles. Alternatively, the ship is capable of being used for mine-laying and mine clearance operations, with a capacity for 300 mines and for an impressive amount of mine detection and clearance equipment along with a retractable gantry crane located above the stern vehicle ramp, which itself is also used for the launch and recovery of landing craft. The ship is capable of supporting a containerized hospital, a command center for up to 80 individuals, or as a simple transport for a large number of containers or 55 vehicles, including up to 7 MBTs.

The ship is armed with three TE-15 Archer anti-air missile launcher systems for a total of 36 missiles, along with a total of eight TE-22 Foreganger Anti-Shipping Heavy Missiles. The ship sports six Trixton 500 defence suite launchers with the capability of defending a small task force with passive and active countermeasures. A 76mm deck-gun is positioned on the bow, in front of one of the ship's two Type 730 CIWS mounts.
