The Gunsan JG-6 (전투기-공격기 6; Jeontugi Gong-gyeoggi 6; Fighter-Attacker (No.) 6) is a variable-sweep wing fighter-bomber/attacker produced by the Gunsan Aircraft Corporation (formerly Gunsan Aircraft Design Bureau) for the Daekanese People's Army. It is based on the Vanquarian Su-17/22 but heavily modified with side-mounted intakes and an enclosed nose fitted with ground attack radar. It continues to serve in both the DPAAF and the DPAN as well as in a number of foreign militaries.

Operational history

  •  Daekan: The Daekanese People's Army Air Force (DPAAF) still maintains an inventory of ~100 JG-6s Daekanese People's Army Navy Air Force (DPANAF) operates ~50. Both branches are slowly withdrawing them from service.

Variants

Domestic variants

  • W-06: Prototype variant.
  • JG-6A: First production variant. Initial production aircraft did not have radar as the LS-55 radar (SRD-5M variant) had not been fully operational yet.
  • JG-6P: Two-seat trainer variant.
  • JG-6B: Upgraded variant entering service in 1984. LS-55B radar fitted, alongside new radar warning receiver and new weapon aiming sight. Provisions for mounting a detatchable refuelling probe were also added.
  • JG-6BP: Two-seat trainer variant of the JG-6B.
  • JG-6C: Minor modernisation launched in 1987. Upgrades include the upgraded LS-55C radar and new laser rangefinder and designation system.
  • JG-6CP: Two-seat trainer variant of the JG-6P.
  • JG-6D: Major modernisation launched in 1996, incorporating technologies from the JG-8. Cockpit converted to a two seater with a permament WSO, new LS-71 radar...TBD
