Haidan-class submarine
The Haidan-class submarine ("Sea Urchin"), also known as the Project 108 class was the first class of nuclear submarines to enter service in the navy of Songguo, and would be followed shortly after by the Super Egui ballistic missile submarine. Thirteen boats were built, but one was lost in an accident in 1975, and the remaining boats are held in reserve, mothballed, or only carry out a few tasks in the littoral waters of the country. Several of these boats have suffered accidents and they are considered obsolete and ineffective. One has been converted into a floating power plant in theLushan Archipelago. Some techniques used to build them may have been stolen through Operation 0185, but they are believed to largely be the first attempt of Songguo's domestic industries. Their poor performance even when they were originally built may have spurred Songhua leadership to begin or expand Operation 0185.
