Hammerfest, officially the United Socialist Republic of Hammerfest (Hammerfesting: Förenade Socialistiska Republiken Hammerfest), is a country in Scandinavia. It borders Pavlovsk to the east and shares a maritime border with the Hulmian Federation and Niagara Union (through Qamutikrai) to the south and west respectively. With a population of just over twelve million, Hammerfest is one of the most sparsely populated countries in Europe. Hammerfest is officially a socialist republic, but practices an unorthodox approach of socialism known as "enlightened socialism."

Hammerfest has stayed neutral as a country since the second world war, and stayed as a diplomatically and economically isolated country until 1985, trading only with fellow leftist neighbor countries such as Pavlovsk and the French Federation. In recent years, Hammerfest has opened up and begun diplomatic missions globally, as a part of its Verdens Venn initiative (lit. "friend of the world"). Hammerfest is an active member of Glascom, an international ecomonic bloc between economically-left countries. Other major members include Pavlovsk, Yahel, Carpathia, and Sentola.

Hammerfest has the third highest GDP per Capita rating in Europe of $41185.56. It's HDI is impressively high for a socialist country, scoring a .809 on the HDI index, inferior only to Cyprus and the Rhone Republic. It is ranked AAA by all three major credit bureaus, one of the few country in the world with an unanimous rating.

Politics

As identified in the Revised Constitution of 1999, Hammerfest is a "parliamentary democracy that embraces the ideals of socialism and practices unity in rule by means of a vanguard party."
