The Harr Lake is a lake located in Salamat. The Oued Harr flows into that lake and multiple other little oueds take their source from this lake. The lake's water is primarily used for farming, notably for cotton farming, which is very water-consuming, and other types of farming ; wheat, corn... Due to this overexploitation of the lake, the surface area of the lake decreased from 3,200 km² in 1985 to 1,913 km² in 2022, and the lake was reported to have a surface area of over 5,400 km² in the early 20th century. If the situation doesn't change, the lake's area could decrease to 1,300 km² in 2050, 675 km² in 2075, 200 km² in 2090 and dry up before 2100, leaving an estimated 300 000 persons without access to water in the area, and the economy could collapse due to the decrease of cotton farming. The Salamati government is planning to redirect the Oued Sidiq, a pretty important river, into the lake, and increase the water volume.
