The Harvard-class was designed in 2008 to meet the demand for a new domestically designed Frigate-grade vessel capable of handling the vast requirements of the Royal Navy, both in the present and in potential conflicts in the future. Eventually replacing the older Ardent-class Frigate, which had been in service since the mid 1970s, the H.M.S Harvard (FFG-260) became an incredibly modular design that received full funding for a flotilla of the class to be built.

Design

The Royal Navy placed a tender for the replacement of the Ardent-class in 2005, calling for the requirements of a Frigate capable of fielding a wide range of capabilities. The Harvard class was one of several contenders and was chosen after the inclusion of a singular TRISTAN module was placed at the fore. The class sports a formidable fighting capability for both surface vessels and sub-surface vessels with the usage of it's incredibly large hangar, of which can carry four light helicopters or two medium.
