Hossein Usavi (born May 23 1950) is an Elastani politician and activist who is the 5th and current President of Elastan in a transitional interim role. He assumed office after the ouster of Bahadar Panwar during the 2023 Revolution. Prior to his presidency, Usavi was a renowned pro-democracy activist and leader of opposition parties during Panwar's 21-year rule. He was considered the main political opponent to Panwar, having run against him in the 2006 and 2010 elections which Panwar won in massive margins widely considered to be illegitimate by the international community. Democratic elections were suspended in the following years, and Usavi along with other pro-democracy leaders like Mayadav Roubi continued to advocate for Panwar's moderation. In October 2023, Usavi and Roubi was detained for leading protests against the Haduastan War, and the subsequent mass demonstrations resulted in Panwar's overthrow. Usavi and Roubi were freed from prison and installed as the leaders of the interim government.
