The House Lodbrok is a political dynasty based in Dyflin Canton, Brytene. The family is an old and established name, with roots in Dyflin since the 8th Century AD, when the first Vikingr invaders arrived in Dyflin led by Ragnvald of Lodbrok. Today, the name is widely spread, but the primary line is still in existence and represented by Alexander Lodbrok.

History

The Lodbrok dynasty was founded by Ragnvald of Lodbrok, a Vikingr raider who, along with several ships of followers, landed in the early 700s. He and his followers were too small in number to conquer the territory, so they served as mercenaries in the internecine wars between the various Celtic warlords. Granted holdings in the marshes to the east of the island, they founded the settlement of Dyflin. The interlopers quickly rose in regard and power, and soon the Lodbrok clan was an integral part of the political scene.

By the late 800s, the Lodbrok dynasty had taken the title of High King and established a sprawling feudal kingdom centered on Dyflin, and ruled for several centuries more-or-less uncontested. In the early winter months of 1304, High King Ua Neill of Lodbrok led a force from the Kingdom of Dyflin to invade Nortymba. The invasion was repulsed and the Saxon nobles counter-attacked, leading to the Fall of Dyflin in autumn of that year. The High King was forced to surrender, and swore fealty to the monarchy of Brytene, and married King Aelle's daughter Brenna. Their daughter Synnove I of Dyflin would later alongside the Brytisc in the Battle of Lowencraic.

Properties and value

Unlike many of the other houses of Brytene, House Lodbrok retains few ancestral holdings. Caladcholg, a sprawling estate outside of Dyflin, is the seat of the family, and is one of the prime dairy farms in the area. Aoife Brighteye invested heavily in Goldwing Finance, which has seen the family fortunes somewhat restored.

Members

Current members include Alexander Lodbrok, Chieftain of Lodbrok, and Aoife Brighteye, his younger sister and Jarl of Dyflin.
