The House of Lindonis, (Heran: Γινлuνι) formerly known as Lindholm and sometimes referred to as Lindonisius, are the ruling dynasty of the Principality of Herastadt.
Descendant to the Astulfings through the cadet line of Roland I, Count of Marholm, the early history of the House of Lindonis was closely tied to that of the ruling dynasty; who they were strong supporters of. With the deposing of the House of Astulf in the Herastadtian War of Succession in 1508, the House of Lindonis was punished for their opposition to Tasso I; making the House political pariahs within the realm. It was not until the 17th century that the House of Lindonis found themselves in favour again; with the ascension of Ludvig IV of House Luoweberg, a close childhood friend of Fredrik IV of Marholm. Throughout the reign of the Luowebergs the House of Lindonis would grow in power; finding much of their wealth in the spice trade.
By the mid 18th century the House of Lindonis reached the zenith of their power, when they inherited the reins of the nation itself after the death of Ludvig V. In 1761 Prince August I enacted the Imperial Declaration, officially turning Herastadt into an Empire and raising the status of the former Princes into that of imperial monarchs. However with the dawn of the 19th century came the decline of Herastadt as a major power, with a combination of civil unrest, economic stagnancy, and military disasters bringing about the total collapse of the Empire in 1904, toward the conclusion of the First Esermian War.
Following a five year regency, in which no Monarch ruled the nation, the Principality was restored under Prince Fredrik I, a distant relative to August III, the last Emperor. From this time House Lindonis have resumed their role as sovereigns of Herastadt, though were made to relinquish the Stewardship in 1926 to an elective head during the Democratization. The current head of the dynasty is Prince Kristian II, great-nephew of Fredrik I and direct descendant of Kostav I through the female line. Kristian II has ruled as Prince since May 2015, following the abdication of Princess Anna I.
