Hvalviik is a port and seafront district on the west side of the river Bjurå in central Greater normark and in the western parts of the Oskarsviik metrolpolitan area. It's municipality has a population of 91,000 which makes it the 7th most populous city in Greater Normark. It's a part of the Oskarsviik metropolitan area. It was established in 1785 when Adolf Kirkebye established a brickyard and then bought up the harbour that was used by a dozen of fishermen. He also established a company that fished salmon up the river, and the harbour was quickly expanded to both house several fishing vessels and to transport brick to Oskarsviik at the otherside of the river and to Margeretehavn upstream.
The brick and fishing town was quickly incorporated into the Oskarsviik Metropolitan area, and nowadays Hvalviik has shifted from primary and secondary industries to being a modern business and university district mixing new arcitecture with old industrial facilities.
