The Independence Square terrorist attack was a terrorist attack perpetrated on December 10, 1994 during the inauguration of a sculpture on Independence Square, Dar Al Hamma, Salamat. The car bomb was aiming the president of Salamat, Malik Khayri.
Course of the attack
On December 10, 1994 in the afternoon, during the inauguration of a statue on Independence Square, a car exploded near of the president Malik Khayri, aimed by the terrorists. The attack made 14 victims, including Malik Khayri, who died of his injuries on December 15. 75 other persons were injured.
Consequences
The death of the president resulted in a crackdown on terrorists, with police now installing checkpoints in every major intersection of every moderate to large cities, and the military installing checkpoints at the entrance of moderate to large cities. Terrorists also are now actively tracked, and the government dispatches the military in rural areas to find them in the mountains or in the savanna.
