The Internal Security Division is the domestic intelligence and law intelligence service of the United Kingdom of Malgrave. It predominantly operates within Malgravean territory, although it is known to have a minor presence overseas through international collaboration.

After being dissolved in the 1930's it was reestablished at the end of 2020 following a series of security reforms made by Prime Minister Nadzieja Brzezicki.

History

The Internal Security Division like most enforcement agencies can trace its origins back to the foundation of the Malgravean state. It was initially tasked with investigating high-profile criminals such as Imerians involved with the slave trade, however, it soon began to focus on other areas such as the coordination of anti-smuggling operations.

In the 1930's members of the Internal Security Division fought together with the military and members of the International Operations Committee (IOC) and Political Protection Service (PPS) in the defensive engagements that took place in the chain of events leading to the Great Exodus. In addition to these defensive goals members of the ISD worked together with their colleagues of the IOC to engage in offensive operations against the Imerians, although the activities of the ISD were focused on establishing insurgency networks amongst the local population, the efficiency of such operations being unknown due to the loss of contact suffered after the war.

After the resettlement of Malgrave the ISD was responsible for investigating threats to national security with members of the Political Protection Service, however, personal disagreements between the Director General of the ISD and the PPS over the allocation of resources hampered the efficiency of both agencies and was blamed with the near success of the 1938 Epping Bombing and the responsibilities of the ISD were merged into the newly formed Special Investigative Service

After the successful election of Nadzieja Brzezicki a series of planned intelligence reforms were implemented by her administration and at the end of 2020 it was announced that the Internal Security Division was to be reestablished, with the SIS being reformed into an umbrella agency to coordinate activity between the ISD and its counterparts.

It is known for being one of the largest Malgravean agencies that is currently led by a citizen that was born outside the United Kingdom as the current Director General was born in what is now the Dornalian Republic.

Operations

The Internal Security Division is officially tasked with protecting Malgrave from major threats such as terrorism, national and international criminal networks and safeguarding against corruption and major violent crime. In order to achieve this goal it coordinates with fellow law enforcement agencies such as the Independent Ethics Enforcement Agency and the Office of National Integrity.

While the Internal Security Division primarily operates within Malgrave it does maintain a handful of offices abroad which are often based in local embassies and consulates, these points serve as points for collaboration between foreign local law enforcement agencies and as a point of assistance for Malgravean citizens.
