Iran-Kurdistan relations can be divided into five major phases: the Kurdish War of Independence, the period from 1937–53, the friendly period during the era of the Pahlavi dynasty, the worsening period from the 1979 Iranian Revolution to the Iran-Kurdistan War, and finally the hostility since the end of the First Gulf War.
