Joshua Partridge Kingsley Canning (/ˈpɑːrɪ/; born February 2nd, 1979) is an Insulamian author and politician who is serving as the 16th and current primeminister of Insulamia since 1 January 2021 and the leader of the People's Party since 29 August 2020. He is a member of Parliament for Palia since 2012, and was the Minister of Education from 2014 to 2020. His political views have been described as democratic socialist. As an author, Canning is most known for his political works, both fiction and non-fiction, including Colourblind (2011), Survival of the Richest (2003), and Fighting Fire with Napalm (2014).

Canning was born in St. Peter and attended Saint Peter's Grammar School. He received higher education at the Royal Insulamian University in Cabot, where he studied education, political science, and linguistics. After graduating in 2000, he taught at Niles J. Coopers Anglican College at a primary level until 2006. His first book, In Offence, was published in 1998, when he was still a student. In 2001, Canning published his first bestselling book, New Millennium, New Economy, an analysis of the New Millennium plan introduced by the Left Coalition minority government in the previous year. Canning joined the People's Party in 2005 and was elected to represent Palia in the House of Representatives in the 2012 federal election. In 2014, he was appointed to federal cabinet as the Minister of Education by primeminister Jean-Clément Thévenet. After Thévenet's resignation in August 2020, Canning became acting primeminister of Insulamia. He officially became the 16th primeminister of Insulamia in 2021, following the Left Coalition's victory in the 2020 federal election.
