Armament
The Jupiter class' primary armament were five 533 mm (21 inch) torpedo tubes situated at the bow of the submarine. Compared to the preceding Yuanshi class, the Jupiter class' armament was reduced by 1 torpedo tube and 7 torpedo tube-launched weapons. However, this reduction was balanced by a significant increase in reload speed, with only 15 seconds being required between firings per tube.
Jupiter-class submarines could carry up to 25 torpedo tube launched weapons; with a typical loadout of 20 Type 56 heavyweight torpedoes, later replaced in service with Hammerhead torpedoes, and 5 Trident anti-ship missiles. Alternatively, the Jupiter class could also be equipped for mine laying and be armed with a maximum of 50 naval mines, including Stonefish influence mines, Stingray mobile mines and Coneshell homing mines.
