History

Spanish Colonial Rule (1789 to 1821)

Korean Californian History began in the 16th century, with Korean Sailors landing in Morro Bay to trade with Spanish Merchants . Soon as the Population of Koreans in the area begin to increase , so did the racial problems that continue to affect Californian society as of today . In 1809 , Several Koreans moved into What is now the City of Hyosan in the Future British Colony of Shasta . By 1810 , Some Korean Ilustrados decided to intermarry with Filipino Settlers , creating a Mestizo Elite Class that despite being only 2% of the population control half of California's Economy . With Growing calls for Mexican Independence , Juan Park staged the Monterrey Rebelion in which Korean Settlers openly burned Goverment Buildings , sparking the Mexican War of Independence .

Mexican Rule (1821 to 1831)

During Mexican Rule , Immigration from Korea Increased , and so did the birth rates for the Korean Settlers living in Alta California and Baja California . However Dutch Settlers also came to the then Mexican Colony 0f Alta California as well as British and American Settlers from the United States and Canada. They then taught the Koreans living in California the Dutch Language to the point that Dutch became a lingua Franca within the Various Korean Groups and their descendants that now call California their home . However Mexican rule was abruptly cut short as Alta California was sold to the Dutch from Mexico
