The Kumuso Oil Company was a culinary goods manufacturer which was founded by the national government of Kumuso as a public-private partnership in 1999. The company was formed principally to produce olive oil, although there were associated products including salad dressings, and cosmetics. Initially, it was owned wholly by the government of Kumuso, but shares of ownership were given to factory owners and labor organizers when production started. The company's assets were liquidated in 2001 in a deal with real estate developers.
History
One of the products traditionally manufactured in Kumuso City was soap. During the Pardaran period, this included soap made from olive oil and other scented oils such as sandalwood.
In 1999, however, there was a sharp decline in foreign soap consumption of the nationally owned brand. This was partially due to the influence of <JK Rowling>, who licensed her own cosmetic products to be manufactured in the Koh Valley. This left the state with a large quantity of olive oil that it was importing in long-term contracts from the southern rim of the Mazdan Sea. Bijan Zangeneh, a purchasing agent for the Supreme Council, authored a plan to repackage the oil and sell the oil under their soap brand. This plan was approved and, later, Bijan began adding other flavors to oil to make the product more marketable.
The products did not perform well, primarily because of the high price. Prices were lowered and lowered again until the oil was sold at successively larger losses. In 2001, the import contract ended and the company was quickly shuttered. The land housing the company's bottling plant was sold to real estate speculators.
