tribal law

Tribes have the right under common law to make their own laws. tribes can write their own penal codes and tribal courts can give sentences of up to 7 years imprisonment, up to 20 lashes or an unlimited fine. Tribal courts also deal with most rural cases relating to divorce, alimony, child custody, child support and other family law issues.

criminal law

Criminal law in Saranidia is based on the Qur'an. There is a seperate juvenile justice system for under 16s.

family law

being an Islamic country polgyny is legal. Another principle of Saranidian family law is that men should protect and provide for women and children. Family law issues tend to be dealt with by tribal courts (in the countryside) or religious courts (in the cities). Those who refuse to pay child support as well as those guilty of domestic abuse can be tried in criminal courts.
